In Proverbs Solomon tells us to know well the condition of our flocks.
Income and expenses are comparable to flocks. Knowing the present amount of income and the sources of income God is allowing us to earn is an essential starting point.
Listing each source and calculating a total amount gives a visual picture of Income. Next we must analyze all current monthly Expenses. As we proceed on our quest for financial freedom, we can categorize and total our expenses. This can be done under such headings as:
- Tithe
- Food
- Shelter
- Utilities
- Clothes
- Transportation
- Insurance
- Past Due Bills
- Entertainment
- Miscellaneous
The goal of this activity enables us to perform the following calculation: Condition = Income minus Expenses.
Proverbs says the wise man has money left over while the foolish man spends all he gets. This calculation depicts whether a person is being wise or foolish.
Once I have determined my condition, two questions can be addressed:
1. How can I increase Income?
2. How can I reduce Expenses ?
Ironsharpener’s can assist in developing a plan to achieve this goal. A coach can assist in defining your goals, pointing out financial blind spots, advising what behavioral changes are warranted, and warning of potential snares.
Ironsharpener’s coaching can also provide on-going accountability and encouragement. Both are important to being successful.
