We have the option to follow God’s wisdom or to rely on our own faulty thinking to conduct our lives. By choosing our way over God’s, we experience heart aches and failures instead of joy and success. (Proverbs 14:12)
God’s word contains several insights on His view of work. How do these match our attitudes and actions? If there is a variance, will you purpose to change and see work as God sees it? The decision is an individual one that each of us must make.
God designed work to be accomplished by man in the garden. (Genesis 2:15) By cultivating and keeping the garden, this was the method for man to produce food to sustain life. Do you live to eat or eat to live?
After the fall, work became challenging. Man was to toil all the days of his life until he returned to the ground. How does this match with your plans for the future? (Genesis 3:17-19 )
Six days we are to work and rest on the Sabbath. (Exodus 20:8-9) How does my current work schedule compare to this?
Proverbs 14:23 states that in actually performing labor there is profit, but merely talking about it causes poverty. Are you a doer or a talker?
The underlying motivation for our work must also be tested. Who do I work for and serve? (Colossians 3:23-24) We are challenged to to work wholeheartedly for the Lord rather than just serving our bosses.
As I search my heart, will I commit to agree with God and approach work His way?
